    Stiff Lock
    on: Nov 15, 2023, 04.59 pm

I noticed the other day that none of the locks on my NT have that little shutter that help prevent water getting in the lock.

Over the last couple of days I've noticed the my ignition lock feels stiff.

Turning is OK, but sometimes pushing it in and pulling it out requires some force.

All the other locks are fine it's just the ignition lock.

Can they be lubed? In 40 years of biking I've never lubed a lock before.

    JonnyHonda.
Use a dry lubricant such as a little graphite powder if you can get it, or alternatively rub a pencil up and down the key. Oil will tend to attract and hold dirt particles.
One has to query what happened to the weather strip? May be worth approaching the supplying dealer.

I agree, but none of the locks have one. Pannier locks, seat lock, pet lock - nada. It's like they no longer do it

    God I love amazon prime,
I've ordered some graphite lock lube, but since the bike is in the dealership tomorrow I may mention it it them.
Cover ones bases so to speak.

You got me thinking and I went and double-checked mine. All have a weatherstrip on them I'm glad to say

    Hmmmmmm,
Interesting. I thought mine was an early 22 model because I was inpatient and bought the floor model.

I'm at the dealership tomorrow I'll do some scouting while having other issues fixed

Hi. Just checked my locks. Ignition, seat and pannier locks all have a weatherstrip. There isn't one on the fuel cap: one is not needed because of the lock cover.

    Mine's an early 2022 model.

Yep, Ive had this problem with the ignition as well, no shutter either. It's been intermittent, but at worst during a trip to Europe this year I thought the key would not come out of the lock!
I did ask the dealer to check it at the last service, but of course just like the non responsive TFT, the faults did'nt replicate the day they had the bike.
Thanks for the pencil trick, i'll give it a go.

I thought no shutter, but I think I may have been wrong.

The shutter is black and not silver as I expected.

On speaking to Service at Grantham Honda "sometimes" blade type key locks get stiff. I did say "it's the 21st century", however the 125cc honda boys experience this a lot because their bikes are generally kept outside.

I can't argue that point as mine is kept outside.

They've lubed it up for me, and I've bought a bottle of graphite lock power for future use.
