    Broken steering lock

A few weeks ago someone tried to walk off with my bike but only succeeded in breaking the steering lock.  I have had it checked at the dealer and there is no damage beyond this.  Not surprisingly the dealer wanted a huge amount to change the locks and ECU etc.  On previous bikes I have had the steering lock has just been a simple mechanism to engage a metal lug into a hole. On the NT1100 it is a bit more difficult to see how the steering lock works and I can't seem to see it looking at the service manual.  Does anyone have any experience of this?  I am hoping that once I might be able to get something welded back in place to make it functional again (for what it's worth!).  Thanks

I'm not sure how the lock works, I assume some central bar I  the locking mechanism that protrudes into the steering tube.

I do know that if you loose all your keys and the security code for a replacement and new lock requires a new ECU. It's like they can't or won't recode anything.

For how easily a steering lock is defeated I wouldn't bother.

    Fixed it for you :016:

Take heart, there are plenty of independent specialists out there that offer ECM re-programming and it won't cost an arm and a leg either. For example in 2016 I had a Ford ECM fail and had it repaired and re-programmed by an independent specialist for £207.12 including VAT
