I give it no throttle, and it starts first time.

The peeps at Grantham dealership are as equally frustrated as I am. I may have to call on my consumer rights. But before I do I'd like to ask each of you a question.

How do you start you NT, and does it start first time?

Morning, my experience with problems and the manufacturers are usually down to how forcefully the dealership puts your case!

There have been a number of bikes having problems with the smartstart. I now just thumb the button until it fires into life.

I would suggest that your dealer does not experience the same problem you are having when testing the bike.
You need to video evidence of the problem, because once the bike has started it's virtually impossible to stall it.

This is the most frustrating part of it. They have experienced it and they have video evidence.

Sometimes the assisted starter (whatever its called) doesnt work and I have to press the starter again.
    Then it runs fine.

Well I am tempted to call them out and say 'rubbish'. But first some thoughts:
Grantham must have thought there was an issue or they wouldn't have worked on it so far.
You video seems to show it starting sucessfully but then dying.
The one button start does depend on a few things and I'd be tempted to swop over a relay or two.

My starting technique is to switch on, ensure in run (if it wasn't allow to prime), press starter for a short pulse and allow it to do its thing.  No throttle.

The book at page 200/202 para 4 even says so, albeit then says add a bit of throttle if unable to start.

Note that, as posted ages ago, my one touch wasn't 100% successful.  But now (more miles) mine works now all the time (just watch it misbehave now).  I'd only expect to give it any throttle if it was hot and I'd stalled it (okay, DCT shouldn't be able to but just saying if) - in line with all my recent Hondas.

How many miles on the clock ?

PM me a number, if I'm not out tomorrow on some long haunt I'll come and see you and can compare (but no nicking bits  :155: ).

It's less that 4 months old. Less than 1800 on the clock and been at the dealership for 6 weeks.

Honda UK Customer support/complaints are now fully engaged. After prodding them they have assigned me a support rep and have been in touch with Grantham Honda.

I've had a good chat with Steve at Grantham and he is pressing them to get this sorted.

    They are thinking throttle bodies.

    I now have a CBR650R as a loaner  :152:

I was thinking too fewer miles (not excess) - my (one-press) starting is better since the 600mi service.

I didn't want to suggest TPS but it may be so - that used to belong on the throttle bodies and Honda only ever change (supply) the whole shooting match.
But the TBW system (and its relays) has got to be a likely suspect.  I do think there should be some fault codes stored though.

    Glad they have engaged again.

    Thanks John.

When the guys at Grantham have ever demo'ed the NT it's always been with a quick JAB of the stater. I'm just pleased that they agree and it's not right.

They have been great, I just hope I get it sorted soon, I need heated grips  :008: and I hope if this is actually an issue a recall is made.
