On Two Wheels / Re: SatNav vs Smartphone (maps / navigation apps)

Finally we can develop a meaningful discussion...

At the beginning, I would like to emphasize that I am not a paid representative of Mapy.cz... I chose this application because it meets all the conditions for operation in mobile and in Apple CarPlay... it supports OFFLINE maps (so internet connection during ride is not necessary, but can be helpful)... it also supports cloud synchronization between devices... and of course IT CAN NAVIGATE (online and offline)....

And now I will comment on your points (one by one):

1.)   Those photos were taken at night, then uploaded for web, so quality went down... Apology accepted.... BTW: after zoom in, they are not DOTS but red and white stripes (due to season road closure)...
2.)   I plan all the my trips by myself.... even those  from imported / Internet dowloaded GPX files... I go through the waypoints one by one from start to finish.... every possible stop, crossing, refueling, viewpoints, attractions, restaurants and hotels along the route.... then I save it to “My Maps“ as "whole" route....  everything is automatically syncronized viac cloud (so I can access it from PC or mobile app and vice versa)... it is my work for long winter evenings...
3.)   Same here... In Mapy.cz I make whole route like house of LEGO bricks... or just save as individual POI's...
4.)   It was just the beginning of my experiments... I have to prove my theory... and I hope I will....
5.)   That is my task for next days / weeks.... to show the evidence.... (and prove my innocence)
6.)   I won't convince you.... I'm just showing an alternative.... a way to elegantly use the main Honda display... when it's there, why not use it? ..... I don’t need another TV screen on handlebars...

Later more....

Hi Stoke-NT, I'm very new to this forum and still finding my feet so apologies if I screw up this response. I don't have an opportunity at the moment to photo the modified seat but suffice to say it looks identical to the original. Thanks for the interest. Cheers, Leon1962.

Hi leon1969,
Sounds very interesting. Could you upload an image?

I believe that we are dealing with an accumulation of misunderstandings here, probably also because we each communicate in a foreign language. So let's make a fresh start:

1/ I am willing to believe you that it is not photoshop, but a photo of a screen with a low resolution which gives a strange pixelated image. I am sorry if I jumped to conclusions.

2/ I don't think you clearly understand what I expect from my navigation device. In the practice of motorcycle travel, rides are usually shared (by tour operators, hotels, friends, websites like routeyou...) in the form of tracks (typically in GPX format) because these are the most universally used (vs more specific gbd or itn format e.g.). Often it concerns hundreds of kilometers with numerous changes of direction (not just one mountain pass or a handfull of waypoints).

3) With a Garmin device you can easily import these tracks and convert them into a route, after which you will be guided all day long, often without touching the device one more time (that depends on the quality of the original track).

4) What you show is a simple route with a few waypoints and that of course works like a charm. Just as good on an Android device as on an Apple. I call that navigation from A to B (possibly via C, D and E). Google Maps and many others offer this too. Fine in many occasions, but not if you have to follow a track.

5) What I haven't seen yet is that you download a full day trip track (=path) from a website and navigate it via Mapy.CZ. I am convinced that the program does not support this at all (not even on the PC neither on an Apple device). You can import a track (path) and view it on the map (unfortunately not on the AA screen and probably neither on the Apple Car Play screen) but not navigate. This is strictly in line with what they advertise, but it is of little practical use.

6) And that's why the app, as good as it is, doesn't meet my needs and I prefer my Garmin. I sincerely hope that in the future more work will be done on apps that do offer this functionality AND work with AA/ACP, because that would make life on our NT a lot easier. Tomtom and MyRoute are trying, but struggling.

Here you can see the difference between a route (made with Mapy.CZ) and an imported path. When I import a GPX-track they unfortunately all show up as paths that are not routable in Mapy.CZ. Off course you can start to create a new route, covering the path, but that will be very timeconsuming and is exactly what the Garmin does for you in a minute.

I try to attach the gpx-file so you can test it yourself.

When I load the Furka Pass GPX file (with START, waypoints and END) into app and I want to navigate the route at first I have to move to "start zone".... so if I'm at home now (in Slovakia) and cannot be in Switzerland the navi app says "RETURN TO ROUTE"... and navigates me from Slovakia to Switzerland.... so I need to reach START point... only then I can continue on loaded GPX route....

note 1: dotted line was made by app itself... beacause Furka Pass is CLOSED NOW (as I assume you already knew that)... and that's why DOTTED and not solid line...

note 2: I already started to make video with screen recording to avoid new accusations...

note 3: even my beard is gray I'm still praise reading comprehension....

note 4: Apple CarPlay si working like charm... Android Auto still has a lot of problems... and we know why....

Modifications, Accessories, and Appearance / Seat height reduction.
« Last post by leon1962 on Today at 10:25 am »
At 5' 4" I have struggled just a bit with the standard seat height and after only 3 months of ownership, something had to change. Growing a couple of inches is unlikely so I opted to have the seat modified. Bootleg Bikes / Preston Car Trim at Catforth were recommended and I'm very pleased with the workmanship, extra comfort and overall result. An extra inch makes all the difference 😀. When visiting the workshop suggest you check a map as Satnav was hopeless.

Why say that ?

Mapy.cz is a real app for iPhone which looks just like the images in this thread. Why say they are Photoshopped ?

Please stop attacking the OP, if you don't want to use an iPhone or the app on your bike then fine, that's your personal choice. I wouldn't use it either as I wouldnt expose my expensive phone like that. But the OP obviously loves it so what's wrong in that, we all have our own preference.

Just one of many vids I came across...
